Miguel has released his ‘War & Leisure’ album, and you definitely need to check it out!

Vibe magazine got it right: “… the LP was well worth the wait …”,  “The Grammy award wining singer has been working on the project for the last two years”

From GQ magazine: “…War And Leisure, contains a fresh philosophy. Stemming from his newfound interest in transcendental meditation, it sees him swapping pornographic lyrics for socially conscious spiritualism.”

My impressions:

“Harem” and “Anointed” had that half Sci-Fi / half somewhat-upper-scale-sports-bar-ish sound that struck me with Rihanna’s “Desperado”

“Now” had some of that atmosphere also, but seemed to go from a sound too laid back for the sports bar to a sound too Mad-Max-like for some venues, and then back again.  The end result I think being it’s more of an artist’s song.  Where the serious listener is counted as a kind of artist as well.

“Told You So” reminded of Prince in many ways.

I have to agree with Rolling Stone magazine’s comment:  “The L.A. soul explorer’s fourth album creates a space where psych-funk splendor coexists with deep anxiety.”
